Haide Campion

Weary Wanderer
Warrior of Light and Darkness

He spent the majority of his days training and adventuring before joining the Scions. Now, at thirty summers, and with the Scions pursuing their own agendas, Haide goes wherever the wind takes him, helping those he meets along the way and cutting down any adversary that threatens peace. His deeds have earned him the titles of both the "Warrior of Light" and the "Warrior of Darkness.

BACKGROUND

Haide Campion originally hailed from Gridania, born to Eorzean parents Beric Campion and Alryda Sophner. Beric was an adventurer and world traveler in his youth before becoming an Adder soldier. He took part in Gridanian defense and the defense against the Garleans at Baelsar’s Wall. His wife, Alryda Sophner, worked as a merchant in the markets, where she sold herbs and made medicine. Beric was described as a determined man and a committed soldier, while Alryda was known to be a quiet presence among the other merchants. Little was known of her past, though she was said to be friendly, yet secretive and reserved. The two met when Alryda moved to Gridania in search of work. Beric helped her get started in the markets, and they quickly fell in love, marrying shortly thereafter.Haide was born soon after their wedding. For a time, they were a seemingly happy family, leading a peaceful life. Though they were not wealthy, they lived comfortably. Haide grew up an active child, and his father quickly discovered the boy had a knack for combat. After several trial runs, Beric realized that Haide’s chief strength lay in swordsmanship and began training him. During their sparring sessions, Beric would often share stories of his adventures and Eorzean history, including the Garlean threat and the ongoing efforts to neutralize it. As Haide grew older, he aspired to follow in his father's footsteps and help defend Eorzea. However, shortly after Haide turned ten, his father lost his life during a mission. His mother became more distant and soon abandoned her life in Gridania to marry Alban rem Cassius, an imperial soldier she had fallen in love with. Alban, a Garlean descent commander, had secretly met Alryda at Baelsar’s Wall, and after a short time, he proposed, promising her a more comfortable life in the Garlean Empire. Alryda accepted, and she, along with Alban, moved back to Ilsabard, taking Haide with them despite his protests. Haide felt betrayed by his mother's actions, angry that she had so easily sided with what he saw as the enemy. But his complaints fell on deaf ears. After relocating to Ilsabard, tensions arose between Haide and his stepfather. Though their relationship was strained, Alban recognized Haide’s natural talent as a swordsman and believed he would make a good soldier. As soon as Haide reached the age of eighteen, Alban ensured he was conscripted into the imperial army. Haide served as a soldier for the next two years, but shortly after his twentieth nameday, he found an opportunity to escape. It took him several months, but he eventually set foot in Eorzea once more. Always on the move, Haide traveled as a wandering sellsword and unofficial adventurer for a time before officially joining the Adventurer’s Guild. Since then, he has traveled far and wide, with his journey eventually leading him to the Scions.
